Creating Pride - Transcending Worlds - Public Staged Reading

  • Bruka Theatre 99 North Virginia Street Reno, NV, 89501 United States (map)

Community Invited to Attend Creating Pride—A Powerful, Youth-Devised Staged Reading Celebrating LGBTQ+ Identity

Our Center and Brüka Theatre are proud to invite the public to Creating Pride: Transcending Worlds, an original, youth-devised staged theatrical reading that explores themes of identity, self-actualization, and community in today’s complex world. This performance will take place at Brüka Theatre on Monday, June 30 at 7:30 PM.  Doors open at 7 PM.

Created through a process known as Devised Theatre or Collective Creation, Creating Pride is an entirely original production developed by high school-aged youth (ages 14–18) from northern Nevada. With no pre-written script, the show was shaped collaboratively through improvisation, storytelling, and lived experience—guided by lead artists Mary Bennett and Stacey Spain trained in arts integration at The Kennedy Center Education Department.

Audiences can expect a heartfelt, courageous, and creative performance that amplifies the voices of LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. Creating Pride is not just a show—it’s a celebration of resilience, truth, and the power of community.

This groundbreaking collaboration is part of Brüka Theatre’s 32nd season, Transcendence, and is supported in part by the Nevada Arts Council and the City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission.
